Change Their World
Our dream is that for every child we educate within Propeller Academy, we partner with the local church to educate a child in an under-served part of the world. As we continue to grow our technological resources, we wonder how we can steward our future staff, volunteers and relationships with local Christian churches.
For example: Does your church do work with an orphanage in Mexico? We can help figure out how to educate children in these orphanages utilizing our resources and your churches’ congregation. We can establish Skype opportunities for Propeller Academy kids to talk to and relate with kids from all over the world. We can encourage families to visit the orphanage and perhaps find ways to encourage adoptions. We will look to establish partnerships rather than reinvent or create our own programming, but this will be about creating something bigger than ourselves, and our Christian comfort, and safety for our Christian kids.
We would like to introduce you to Sugata Mitra, an innovative education researcher and professor of educational technology at Newcastle University, who advocates for minimally invasive education. His work has included researching how kids learn in some of the poorest parts of the world. Mitra’s “Hole in the Wall” project demonstrates that, even in the absence of any direct input from a teacher, an environment that stimulates curiosity can cause learning through self-instruction and peer-shared knowledge. In this 2010 TED talk, it is easy to make the connection to global educational missions between Christian schools, churches and orphanages. Imagine if we could innovative and change the lives of children through education and Christ, and give them hope for a bright future!
